Library Referendum

Voter Referendum – May 17th

Tappan-Spaulding Memorial Library needs your support! If you live in the Newark Valley School District, please vote on May 17th for the proposition for community funding for our library. We are asking for an annual $50,000 provision to help the budget shortfall of the past several years.  This funding will also enable us to add more new materials, continue to provide and improve programs and events for all ages, and more!

Almost 90% of the libraries in our system currently rely on school district based funding support through the school tax ballot each year, but this will be the first time we will be placed on the referendum.

While this proposition does add a small tax for residents, based on the assessed property value at a rate of $.16 per $1000, it comes out to $16 a year for a household with an assessed value of $100,000, which is a small and reasonable amount for our expansive library services.

Again, the vote on the library funding initiative will take place on Tuesday, May 17 from noon to 8pm in the Newark Valley High School Auditorium and is placed as a proposition on the school ballot. All voters eligible to vote in the school district elections and budget vote will also be eligible to vote on the library funding initiative.
